English spelling preserves history, so letters can be silent. In debt, island, and Wednesday, the written form is not a sound-by-sound instruction. Listen before guessing.
Giving every syllable equal weight
English rhythm depends on contrast. One syllable usually carries stronger stress while others become shorter and quieter. Mark the stress, then imitate the entire beat of the word.
Replacing an unfamiliar sound too quickly
If a sound is absent from your first language, begin slowly: notice tongue position, compare a minimal pair, and add the sound back into the word. Clear communication matters more than erasing your accent.
