American vs British English pronunciation
Both labels cover many regional accents. These broad patterns are useful listening clues, not rules about a “correct” way to speak.
Listen for the final r
Many American accents pronounce the r in words such as car and hard. Many standard southern British models pronounce it only before a following vowel. This feature is called rhoticity.
Compare vowel shape
Words such as bath, dance, and class often use a shorter front vowel in American English and a longer back vowel in southern British English. Listen to the complete word; spelling alone cannot show the contrast.
Notice stress and reductions
Stress may move in some words, while unstressed vowels often reduce toward a schwa in both varieties. Practice the rhythm of the whole phrase instead of over-articulating every letter.
